After years of photographing children in preschool and elementary school settings, I’ve learned this: school photos are best when they actually feel like the child in them.
Every child shows up differently.
Different personalities. Different comfort levels. Different ways of connecting.
I’ve worked with every personality type since my oldest child was in the Magnolia Coop 1s class 17 years ago, and over the years I’ve learned how to create images that capture each child honestly — not just how they looked at that age, but who they were.

Please email class lists in alphabetical order so I can keep galleries organized and deliver them as smoothly as possible.

Let parents and students know ahead of time when photo day is scheduled. Students get excited, and parents appreciate the heads up so outfits (and hair!) can be photo ready.

Find a spot that’s a little removed from the busy walkways and distractions of friends. Let me know if you’d prefer to take these indoors or outside — I can make either option work. It just depends on the look and feel you’re wanting for the photos.

Dates fill quickly, especially in summer and fall. I release my calendar each November for the following year. Booking a few months ahead is ideal.

There’s no “right” season for school portraits — it really depends on what works best for your school community.
Some schools prefer portraits at the beginning of the school year so photos are ready for student identification, cubbies, yearbooks, class lists, and other school materials. Others prefer end-of-year portraits to document how much students have grown throughout the year.
And some schools choose to do both!
Photos can be taken outdoors for a more natural feel or indoors for a more studio-style setting. I bring lighting support for either option.
Please let me know in advance what works best for your school and set aside a designated space for photos.

This depends entirely on the size of your school and class groups. In general, I typically need about 3–5 minutes per student, including transition time between children.
