After 19 years of photographing families, I’ve learned this: the photos work when people feel comfortable.

I’ve done this long enough to know how to work with any dynamic and capture it honestly.
What it’s like working together
Consider the setting. Beach sessions pair beautifully with bare feet or sandals. If we’re walking through grass or trails, skip white sneakers. For younger kids (or anyone prone to spills), a backup outfit in the car is always a smart idea.

Think timeless, coordinated color tones — not identical outfits. Lean toward natural colors and soft neutrals, and add a subtle pop if you’d like. Comfort matters, especially since we’ll be moving, sitting, and walking during the session.

Choose the person who cares most about what they’re wearing — whether that’s mom, a teenager, or even the littlest one who has a strong fashion style. Start with an outfit they feel confident and comfortable in, then build the rest of the family around that.

Choosing your location
We’ll select a Bainbridge Island or Seattle setting that feels most like you — whether that’s beach, park, waterfront, or an urban backdrop. Most sessions take place during golden hour for the most flattering light.

Dates fill quickly, especially in summer and fall. I release my calendar each November for the following year. Booking a few months ahead is ideal.

There’s no wrong season — it depends on what you’re drawn to. Spring in Seattle and Bainbridge brings blooms and fresh color. Summer offers long evenings and warm light. Fall has rich tones and layered textures.
In the Pacific Northwest, weather is most predictable July through October. If you’re planning for holiday cards, schedule earlier than you think to allow for weather flexibility, editing, and ordering. Fall weekends fill quickly once school and sports schedules ramp up, so planning ahead makes it easier to secure a date that works. I also build flexibility into my calendar in case we need to adjust.
I have a collection of beautiful locations that photograph well in every season. We’ll start by talking about what feels easiest and most you.
Do you want to stay close to home for convenience? Be on the beach, in a park, or somewhere more urban? Or would you rather I choose a spot based on your general vibe or location?
We’ll finalize your location at least one month prior to your session so everything feels settled and simple.
Sessions typically last about an hour, though we often don’t need the full time. There’s plenty of room for breaks, outfit changes, and variety without feeling rushed.
Family sessions include up to five immediate family members. If bringing your pet feels joyful and helps everyone relax, bring them along. If it feels like one more thing to manage, it’s completely okay to leave them at home.
Extended family members are welcome for an additional per-person fee. This allows enough time to photograph different groupings and combinations without the session feeling rushed.
If the weather isn’t ideal, we’ll reschedule. Simple as that. I build flexibility into my calendar for this exact reason.
